The painting of global superstar Ed Sheeran, created by local artist Maddie Willis, was shown off outside the Thomas Wolsey pub in St Peters Street by landlord Damon Jeffries and the Mayor of Ipswich, Pat Bruce-Browne.

The pub was transformed into The Old Phone for a weekend in May last year which culminated in the announcement of Sheeran's most recent album Play, and three hometown gigs at his beloved Portman Road.

Pat Bruce-Browne, the Mayor of Ipswich said: "It's wonderful to be here today to open this amazing mural of Ed Sheeran from a local artist named Maddie. It's always good to have our little, you know Mr Ed Sheeran, to help us with our bid to become the next city of culture.

"So let's hope that everyone comes and visits this mural, spend some money in the bar and just make sure we show Ipswich to be the wonderful place as it is."

The artist behind the work, Maddie Willis said: "It's basically just to commemorate when Ed Sheeran played here, which was obviously a very very special event. It has been such a pleasure to do. Obviously, the last few days painting it have been so fun and sort of talking to everyone who passed as well."

Damon Jeffrey said: "We are absolutely over the moon with the mural that's honouring. It's honouring Ed, and it's honouring when Ed played here at the Thomas Wolsey, the artist is amazing, local, and we get we're just so so pleased."
